Almost guaranteeing a return by covering both player and banker bets in baccarat, or both red and black in roulette, results in lost bonus winnings.

Why table games count less towards a bonus

Weighting is based on the house edge each game gives the casino.

Roulette: European roulette pays back about 97.3% of stakes over the long run, more than many slots, so casinos count it for less.
Blackjack: Blackjack pays back even more in the long run than almost any other game, which is why it is often weighted lower than all other games, or banned.
Baccarat: Banker and player bets come close to even. Casumo counts baccarat at 0%.
Slots: Edges are usually bigger, so slots count 100% at most UK casinos.

Regulations for weighting don't exist. The Gambling Commission left it up to the casinos when they capped wagering requirements at 10x, so the same bet at roulette may count 10% at one casino and 0% at another. For more, check our game weighting guide.

Weighting determines the bets. The game's house edge dictates what those bets cost on average.

Public weightings and standard house edges give a good starting point for calculations. Keep in mind, sessions vary dramatically.

Roulette is where a bonus goes wrong. At 10% weighting the bets cost more on average than the bonus is worth, so taking it loses money in the long run. Blackjack played to basic strategy roughly breaks even.

The cleaner choice for a table player is an offer that leaves the deposit untouched, such as MrQ's or bet365's, or PlayOJO's money back, which is paid on table play with no wagering.

Blackjack or roulette with a low wagering bonus?

Game type is important when using bonus money.

Blackjack: Low house edge when played well, so bonus wagering costs less. Watch for side bets and versions set at 0%, such as Classic Blackjack at Betway.
Roulette: Higher edge, and even-money bets on both colours are banned as low-risk play. Single-zero tables are the better choice.
Video poker: Counts 5% at Casumo and 8% at Betway, with All Aces and Jacks or Better at 0% there.
Baccarat: Counts nothing at Casumo, Betway or BetMGM.

Table limits make bonus play slow. At €5 a hand and 10% weighting, each hand clears about 43p of wagering. A £10 bonus at 10x needs £100 cleared, so about 230 hands at the maximum stake.

Casumo's 20% rule bites harder on small bonuses. On a £10 bonus, any single bet of £2 or more counts as abuse, so the real cap is under £2, and clearing takes over 500 hands at £1.90.
